I have no complaints at all about this hard drive, it works fine.

I have a major complaint about Amazon on this item, though. It shows on their site as being in-stock. Yet, it took a full 7 days for them to get around to shipping it, just too much bother, I guess. It shipped from Phoenix, which is usually a three day delay to me using normal USPS shipping. Yet for some reason, this shipment took another full week, leading me to believe that it wasn’t actually shipped as stated, only entered on the shipping log. This order certainly wasn’t up to the standards I’ve come to expect from Amazon.

    Ordered a 160GB drive, they shipped a 160GB drive.
Yeah I understand overhead on formated drives,
but the drive was under 130GB when partitioned by Windows XP.

So I guess the 130GB was 100GB?? Kind of a rip.

    Amazon did not care.

My 04 IBM Thinkpad came with a small drive and I wanted to go from 40gb to something larger. This WD Scorpio Blue is simply fantastic. Before you begin to build go to the WD web support and download the software available Acronis True Image! It made everything very simple to handle.

A simple disk swap then adding the original drive on an adapter for the UltraSlim Bay allowed me to prep the drive and then mirror the image of the original to the replacement. Removed the original setup the boot order in the bios and that is it! Up and running with the system finding 214gb of drive now available.

The software is the key to a quick hassle free install.

    Now as an aside:

AMAZON Read This! Your shipping has become erratic and unreliable! I order a 250gb WD Scorpio Blue SATA and it came doubled boxed with nice cardboard inserts to hold the drive securely and I praised the packaging

I ordered a 250gb WD Scorpio Blue PATA and it comes in an un-taped single box that obviously came open and was damaged with the drive tossed back in it sideways. Did not know how to set it into the cardboard sleeves I guess nor a piece of tape available at the whole warehouse!

So far the drive is working but you have to wonder what happened to this small highly breakable electronics in shipping. These small drives can be ruined by twisting them alone!

After getting a Toshiba Satellite P35 for free. I went about fixing it’s known issues. Then I tackled the speed with more RAM and a bigger faster HD. The original HD was 100GB 4200RPM. By going to a 250GB 5400RPM I actually significantly increase the R/W speeds of the laptop. The increased rotation rate is nice but hardly the cause for the biggest gain. Because each HD had the same number of platters the distance to search for a file on the new HD is about 2.5 times less distance than the original. That, the 8MB, and the increased RPM’s make this HD over 2X’s faster than the old one. =) Making old slow computers run fast again… Just so long as you stay away from Vista that is. Actually if you want to see some real speed load Umbuntu and it’s virus free to boot. I do all my web surfing and banking on a locked down Umbuntu machine and I have never felt safer.

Fun Fact: Here is our Government at work. Windows 7 comes on Oct 22 09 and the army has just decided to convert everything to Vista – which has major problems. This of course means the army will purchasing new computers to run the bloated OS. Of course their is no guarantee that Windows 7 will not have issues but the 2nd OS in a series for MS is usualy better.

    Windows 95 Sucks
    Windows 98 OK
    Windows ME Sucks
    Windows XP OK
    Windows Vista Sucks
    Windows 7 ?

Save yourself the headache and learn about Umbuntu.
